Xiegu XPA125B firmware V2.0.1

Recommended version Verified — manufacturer file

Download zip (10.1 MB) Manufacturer's page ↗

Newest XPA125B firmware: fixes the low-pass-filter group jumping during transmit on some bands. From this version the amplifier shows its firmware version briefly at power-on. Radioddity's package includes Xiegu's release note, illustrated instructions and TeraTerm 5.3.

Read before installing. XPA125B only - never the older XPA125. Needs 13.8 V. Tick the 1k option in the XMODEM send dialog or the update fails. The upgrade clears the tuner's stored matches. Owners report TeraTerm 4.96 works where newer versions stall. Downgrading to V2.0.0 build 014 by the same procedure has been reported.

Xiegu XPA125B firmware V2.0.1
============================

WHAT THIS IS
------------
Xiegu XPA125B amplifier firmware V2.0.1, Xiegu release date 2025-01-14,
published by Radioddity (the US distributor) on 2025-01-20. The newest
XPA125B firmware found (September 2026).

Xiegu's release note (included), in full: "Fixed the bug of LPF jumping
during TXing." Radioddity: "Fixed the issue of low-pass filter group
jumping when transmitting in some bands."

From V2.0.1 the amplifier shows its firmware version for about a second
at power-on (Radioddity's instructions, step 23; groups.io
Xiegu-XPA125B message #419: "If You install the latest firmware, v2.0.1
it will show the firmware version when booting up. Earlier version's
didn't show this.").

Firmware files for the XPA125B have the extension .xgf and are sent to the
amplifier's bootloader by XMODEM-1k from a terminal program. There is no
dedicated Xiegu updater program.

APPLIES TO
----------
Xiegu XPA125B 100 W HF/6 m amplifier with tuner.

Must NOT be used on the older XPA125 (without "B"). Xiegu's tutorial:
"This firmware is only applicable to XPA125B. Cannot be used for XPA125,
so as to avoid abnormalities and damage the equipment."

BEFORE STARTING
---------------
From Xiegu's XPA125B firmware upgrade tutorial (2020-01-09) and
Radioddity's instructions in the package:
- An external DC supply set to 13.8 V, powering the amplifier.
- The data cable. Radioddity: "the USB-cable that came with your
XPA125B". Xiegu: the G90 and X5105 data cables can also be used.
- The cable's USB driver installed on the PC. Xiegu refers to the driver
steps of the G90 firmware upgrade tutorial; Radioddity suggests checking
the device with NirSoft USBDeview. Neither names the USB chip, and no
separate XPA125B driver download was found.
- A terminal program with XMODEM-1k send. The package includes TeraTerm
5.3. Owners on the Xiegu-XPA125B group reported that newer TeraTerm
versions stalled at the end of the upload and that TeraTerm 4.96 worked
(messages #134, #245); TeraTerm 4.96 is a separate entry in this
  archive.
- Xiegu: "After the firmware upgrade is completed, the data saved by the
previous antenna tuner will be cleared." Expect to re-tune every
  antenna afterwards.
- Radioddity: "Never update your radio if it is not really necessary".

INSTALLATION
------------
From Radioddity's instructions (package PDF) and Xiegu's tutorial.
 1. Power the XPA125B from the 13.8 V supply, then switch it off.
 2. Connect the data cable between the amplifier and the PC. Confirm the
virtual COM port exists (Device Manager, or USBDeview).
 3. Start TeraTerm. Choose a serial connection on the cable's COM port.
    Setup > Serial port: M0PQA's recovery write-up gives 115200 baud;
Radioddity shows its settings only as a screenshot, so the other
parameters could not be confirmed in text.
 4. Press and hold [PA] and [BAND], and while holding them press [POWER].
The display shows the bootloader screen. (That screen shows the
    bootloader's own version, e.g. "XPA125B Bootloader Ver:V1.0.00 Sep 5
    2018", not the firmware version - groups.io message #102.)
 5. Release all keys.
 6. Press [PA] (the UPDATE function). The existing firmware is erased at
once. After about 3 seconds TeraTerm shows:
        Waiting Connect.C
The amplifier is now waiting for the file.
 7. In TeraTerm: File > Transfer > XMODEM > Send... Select
XPA125B_Fw_V2.0.1.xgf and TICK THE "1k" OPTION. Radioddity: "This is
very important. If you forget it, you will have to start the complete
    update procedure from the beginning."
 8. The progress bar shows the transfer. When it completes, the XPA125B
    power-cycles by itself.
 9. Unplug the data cable. Switch the amplifier off and on again.

VERIFYING
---------
At power-on, V2.0.1 shows its version details for about a second
(Radioddity step 23). Firmware before V2.0.1 does not show a version.

IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG
-----------------------
- TeraTerm then shows "Update finish! Entering user code.... Cannot not
find an application" and the amplifier will only start in bootloader
mode: the transfer was not accepted. M0PQA (groups.io message #244)
recovered by repeating the whole procedure; the reply (#245) gives the
two causes seen: the "1k" box not ticked, or a TeraTerm version other
than 4.96. Repeat steps 4-9 with 1k ticked, using TeraTerm 4.96 if the
  bundled 5.3 stalls.
- Transfer stalls at the end of the file: group members report this with
newer TeraTerm versions and success with 4.96 (message #134).
- No "Waiting Connect.C" in TeraTerm about 3 seconds after UPDATE: no
source names the cause. Check that TeraTerm is connected to the
cable's COM port and that the driver is installed, then re-enter the
  bootloader (step 4).
- A failed transfer leaves the bootloader in place: it is separate from
the firmware (groups.io message #102), and in the failures reported on
the group it stayed reachable with [PA] + [BAND] + [POWER], so the
upload could simply be repeated (messages #244-#246).
- Band switching misbehaves on 15/12/10/6 m with a home-made band-voltage
controller after updating: one owner found V2.0.1 accepts a narrower
band-voltage window than V2.0.0 build 014 and fixed it by recalibrating
the controller's voltages with the amplifier's cable connected
  (groups.io message #401).
- Tuner memories are gone: expected; Xiegu's tutorial says the upgrade
  clears them. Re-tune each antenna.

DOWNGRADING
-----------
Possible by the same procedure with an older .xgf file. An owner reported
going from V2.0.1 back to "2.0.0 build 14" and later forward again
(groups.io Xiegu-XPA125B message #399/#401). V2.0.0 build 014 and build
013 are both in this archive. Tuner memories are cleared by every
firmware load.
