WPSD disk image for BridgeCom SkyBridge MAX / Plus (Trixie)
Recommended version Not hosted — available from the manufacturer
The WPSD (W0CHP-PiStar-Dash) operating-system image built for BridgeCom's SkyBridge MAX and SkyBridge Plus hotspots. BridgeCom's own reimaging guide for both models links this file, so it is the current factory-replacement image for the SkyBridge Plus. WPSD is free software under the GNU GPL version 2.
Read before installing. Link only: a system image still offered (918 MB xz-compressed as listed on the WPSD page). Official file: https://w0chp.radio/WPSD_SkyBridge_Max-Trixie.img.xz (redirects to https://mirror.w0chp.radio/images/WPSD_SkyBridge_Max-Trixie.img.xz); also listed on https://w0chp.radio/wpsd/#download-wpsd as "BridgeCom SkyBridge MAX/Plus". Published SHA-256 (WPSD_SHA256-SUMS.txt, read 2026-09-18): f550621918b64b01a19108e25c06ac0d45557f2814fdcf8893dc2648e9e37f87; the same checksum is listed for the older name WPSD_SkyBridge_Plus-Bookworm.img.xz, i.e. both names serve the same file. The image is rebuilt under the same name (the 2025-12-18 sums file listed 3c0407b3…) — check against the current sums file. BridgeCom states the image link is intended to be used under the instruction of a BridgeCom technical support representative, and that damage from removing and flashing the microSD card is not guaranteed to be covered under warranty. BridgeCom procedure ("Micro SD Card Reimaging Steps" PDF on the resources page): remove the microSD card by sliding it straight out (do not pull up); in Raspberry Pi Imager choose Device > No Filtering, OS > Use custom (the downloaded file), then the card; answer No to OS customisation; after writing, optionally copy a Wi-Fi file made with https://w0chp.radio/wifi-config-generator/ onto the card's boot drive. Units with all-black USB ports are Raspberry Pi 3B based and join 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only; units with two blue USB ports are Pi 4B based and support 2.4 and 5 GHz. First boot: the display shows "Initializing…", the image runs background tasks and reboots once — do not remove power. The WPSD page gives the dashboard address as http://skybridge.local, login pi-star / raspberry. BridgeCom's earlier reimaging PDF linked https://w0chp.radio/WPSD_SkyBridge-Max_Latest.img.xz, which is no longer offered; no archived copy was found.
