WPSD disk image for Raspberry Pi (Trixie)
Recommended version Not hosted — available from the manufacturer
The universal WPSD (W0CHP-PiStar-Dash) operating-system image for multi-core Raspberry Pi boards: a complete Raspberry Pi OS "Trixie" (Debian 13) system with the WPSD dashboard and MMDVM stack pre-installed, for building a DIY MMDVM digital-voice hotspot. The Trixie images were announced on 2025-09-13 and replace the Bookworm-based Raspberry Pi image. WPSD is free software under the GNU GPL version 2.
Read before installing. Link only: a system image the WPSD project still offers (964 MB xz-compressed as listed on the WPSD page; the written image is larger). Official file: https://w0chp.radio/WPSD_RPi-Trixie.img.xz (redirects to https://mirror.w0chp.radio/images/WPSD_RPi-Trixie.img.xz). Published SHA-256 (https://w0chp.radio/WPSD_SHA256-SUMS.txt, read 2026-09-18): 6a7a6987b6a647233bb537a63aabe1e95c114dd72c206455125983e4ca0fd031. The file name carries no build number and the image is rebuilt in place — the sums file archived on 2025-12-18 listed 36d386e9d9efe0005bf38a54683fbb09fd1a0b6a6d823039299af7f4907e3760 for the same name — so check the checksum against the current sums file. Writing: balenaEtcher (the WPSD User Manual recommends it over Raspberry Pi Imager) or Raspberry Pi Imager; the .xz file does not need to be decompressed first. SD card at least 8 GB. Network: connect Ethernet, or create a Wi-Fi file with the WPSD WiFi Config File Generator (https://w0chp.radio/wifi-config-generator/); the WPSD User Manual (https://manual.wpsd.radio/install_software/) alternatively enters the SSID, password and Wi-Fi country in Raspberry Pi Imager's OS Customisation screen (Shift+Ctrl+X). First boot: allow about five minutes (longer on slower boards), then open http://wpsd.local and log in as pi-star / raspberry; change that password on the Configuration page. A Trixie image is a new operating system and must be installed by writing the SD card, not by an in-place upgrade; Bookworm installations remain supported until Bookworm's end of life. Earlier WPSD images (the 2023 "_Latest" images and the Bullseye builds) are no longer offered and no archived copy was found.
